Monday Dec 15, 2025
Monday Dec 15, 2025
We start this weeks episode by going over everything from the T100 Grand Final on the weekend. We then move onto the T100’s 2026 plans and their big announcement of a merger with World Triathlon in 2027. To say there are some strong opinions thrown around in these discussions would be an understatement. Then it’s time to talk about the uncovering that a triathlete has been deceiving and lying to everyone since at least 2024. And we finish off the show, as always, by reading and responding to your Spotify comments.

This comment is in response to Jack’s take on the T100 merging with World Triathlon. I’ve been a member of Team USA since 2018 and have raced age group grand final relay, sprint, and olympic events multiple times. Retaining the continuity of these races is critical to keeping people engaged in sport, especially women. I strongly object to the sentiment that shortening the swim makes triathlon more approachable. The sprint distance is an excellent entry point for a new triathlete and the olympic distance provides added challenge without the lengthy training commitment of a half or full IM. To be successful at these distances within a national federation and at the grand final, you must be exceptional at all three disciplines. If you are representing your federation, you should be among the best in the world at all three. Shortening the swim course reduces that expectation to provide cyclists and runners the advantage, which they already have at every distance beyond olympic. Your other comment about reducing swim fatalities with a shorter swim is not accurate. In 2024, two men died in the age group SPRINT grand final in Torremolinos - one on the swim, the other on the run. In 2025 at ITU Wollongong, the only medical event occurred again in the age group SPRINT where a man was taken out of the water during the swim. In the US, the path to qualifying for national championships and making Team USA is clear and motivating. The group of mothers and working professionals I consider friends through sport developed out of our shared challenges in making the team while managing our lives. If World Triathlon changes these events, fewer women will be able to navigate the qualification process. Scheduling more international events makes it impossible to weave this sport into our lives. Ironman has already made it clear that bringing women into the sport is not a priority. We do not need World Triathlon to follow suit. Despite my opposition to recent comments, I love your pod - especially Vicky. Keep up the good work!
